One big nursery
In the middle of our winter (late January to mid-March), a real birth wave is taking place, particularly in the south and southeast of the Serengeti. Thousands of gazelle, wildebeest and zebra calves are born every day. Within a few minutes the calves are on their shaky legs, ready to run away from the many lurking predators.
This trip is all about new life and survival in beautiful nature.
In the safari parks Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Manyara, you have front row seats, amidst a variety of nurseries. Endearing and exciting, but most certainly unforgettable!

Travel schedule
In our coldest winter months (January – March), you enjoy the beautiful weather in Tanzania and witness a true baby boom. Innumerable new lives but just as many perils. From our comfortable green camp, you experience this birth wave first hand during the great migration of wildebeests in Serengeti National Park. For even more newborns, you visit Lake Manyara and the fertile Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Arusha
The journey begins in Arusha city, Tanzania’s safari capital. You’re welcomed at the airport and enjoy the first night in a comfortable hotel, located on the outskirts of the city. At this pleasant place, you enjoy a drink and a bite with the sounds of crickets and young birds in the background.
Lake Manyara
Before you reach Lake Manyara National Park, you drive through the village of Mto wa Mbu. This typical African village hosts a colourful local market with lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. Certainly worth to explore.
Subsequently, you spend two nights inside (or near) the park, from where you have the opportunity to take a safari at night or by foot. There’s a great chance that newborns and their parents pass by as you enjoy a cold drink at the tent.
Serengeti
The next day you drive to the southern part of the Serengeti, the area in which a true baby boom is taking place this time of year. Simultaneously, this naturally attracts the attention of countless predators for you to behold.
Serengeti literally means “endless plains”. You’ve probably never been able to see for such a distance in your life. In search of fresh grass, throughout the year millions of animals roam through this park, which has so much to offer. This time of year they are located in the south and southeast of the park, where the now green plains turn into a real nursery.
Ngorongoro
The road from the Serengeti to the Ngorongoro Highlands is one of the most beautiful routes in Tanzania. There’s so much to discover along the way! New life is spreading everywhere.
You spend the night in a charming lodge in the Ngorongoro Highlands area, just outside the Ngorongoro Crater. Early in the morning, you leave for a tremendous safari in the Nogorongoro Crater. If you’re lucky, you can spot the Big Five (elephant, rhino, lion, leopard, buffalo).
Departure
The next day you wake up in Arusha city. You’re back in the city where your safari started. You can choose to either spend the day at your lodge or do an activity in the area.
Would you like to see and experience even more? In that case we offer you the possibility to extend this safari with a stay on for example the Tanzanian coast or one of the tropical islands.
If not, you take an evening flight from Arusha – the Kilimanjaro Airport – back to your home destination, where you arrive the next morning.
