Your autumn adventure starts with a stay in the bustling Stone Town on Zanzibar Island, an introduction to the mix of cultures.
Then you fly to Nyerere National Park, for a unique safari where you can also admire the wildlife on foot and from the water. Autumn colors characterize the landscape.
The autumn trip continues as a ‘seafari’ on Mafia Island. You can relax under the palm trees on the beach of the Indian Ocean or explore the magical underwater world and see the whale shark. You decide.
Stone Town
Upon arrival at Zanzibar airport you will be picked up and taken to the accommodation in the historic center of Stone Town. The town exudes the rich Swahili history.
A city walk for the second day through this town, full of charming shops, historic buildings, markets, museums and restaurants, is highly recommended. A multi-colored palette of colours, smells and flavors passes by. The rich history and cultural diversity of this UNESCO World Heritage Site will stay with you forever. In the evening you can enjoy the beautiful setting sun on the roof terrace of one of the many restaurants.
Nyerere national Park
The autumn safari starts today with a beautiful domestic flight to Nyerere National Park.
After landing you drive to the lodge, enjoying the landscape and the animals in the meantime. Various safari activities take place from the lodge, guided by very experienced guides. You make safaris by boat and jeep. You have the freedom to decide what you want to do each day. During a boat safari it is fantastic to see the animals from the water on the shore. A jeep safari can be done in the morning and afternoon, but you can also go out for a whole day.
On the last morning a walking safari of a few hours is planned. These three adventurous and varied days offer a unique experience in the middle of nature.
Mafia Island
After breakfast you will be transferred to the airport for a panoramic flight to Mafia Island. There you will be met by a driver, where your autumn safari will continue in a ‘seafari’.
Let yourself doze off in a hammock under the palm trees on the beach or opt for action – swimming, snorkeling, diving or fishing. There is something for everyone at Mafia.
The Chole Bay with its many islands, beaches and sandbanks, is part of the Mafia Island Marine Park, has great opportunities for snorkeling, sailing and swimming. Between October and March you can snorkel with whale sharks here!
From spotting exotic birds to exploring historic archaeological sites, there is plenty to discover at Mafia. It is up to you.
Back home
At the end of the afternoon you fly from Mafia Island – via Dar es Salaam – to your home destination where you arrive the next morning.
Everything comes to an end, but after this autumn trip you will face the upcoming winter fully recharged.
