South Tanzania – a week in Ruaha and Selous
Untouched safari areas, little tourism, remote and small-scale accommodations: meet southern Tanzania!
Your trip starts with three nights in Nyerere National park (the former Selous Game Reserve). In Nyerere, you can go on walking-, jeep-, and boat safaris. It’s amazing to sail across the water and see hippos and crocodiles up close and other animals on the shore. The walking and jeep safaris are extraordinary.
Hereafter, you visit the unspoiled, rugged Ruaha: the largest National Park in Tanzania with stunning sceneries, large groups of animals and the Great Ruaha river.

Travel schedule
The safari starts with four nights in Nyerere National Park (the former Selous Game Reserve). Nyerere is immense and known for its many rivers and lakes and large groups of animals and birds. Subsequently, you spend three nights in Ruaha National Park. Ruaha is impressive because of its wide variety in landscapes and animals.
Dar es Salaam
Your trip starts in Dar es Salaam; the capital of Tanzania. You are welcomed at the airport and enjoy your first evening in a comfortable hotel located along the water in a suburb of Dar es Salaam. A pleasant place for you to enjoy a late-night snack and drink to recover from the flight.
Nyerere / Selous
Early in the morning, you take a scenic flight from Dar es Salaam. You fly over endless game areas to Nyerere National Park. Upon arrival, you are welcomed by our guide and your safari to the camp starts right away.
The coming days are filled with safaris by jeep, or sail across many rivers and lakes to see the animals from the water.
Ruaha
You fly from Nyerere National Park to Ruaha National Park. With an open jeep, you explore this rugged park that owes its name to the Ruaha River in the next few days.
The river attracts many animals throughout the year. Among others, Impala, waterbuck, lions, elephants, buffalo and the endangered African wild dog, inhabit this park. Besides, Ruaha has also a lot to offer for bird lovers.
Departure
If you decide not to extend your trip, you fly back from Dar es Salaam – The Julius Nyerere International Airport – in the evening (from day 10) back to your home destination, where you arrive the next morning.
