Travel schedule
Your sustainable safari starts in Arusha, the Safari capital of Tanzania. You will visit the most beautiful nature reserves of Northern Tanzania; the Arusha National Park, Lake Manyara, the Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti National Park.
In the Serengeti you will follow the mass migration of wildebeest from one of our mobile Green Camps, North or South. You will then be in exactly the right location to experience this world-famous Great Migration from the front row.
You will conclude this adventure in style on the tropical island of Mafia and the Mafia Island Marine Park.
Arusha
Your trip starts in Arusha city, the safari capital of Tanzania. You’re welcomed at the airport and enjoy the first evening in a comfortable and eco-friendly hotel, on the city’s outskirts. At this pleasant place you enjoy a drink and a bite, with the sounds of crickets and young birds in the background.
The next day you will visit Arusha National Park and make a canoe safari on Lake Momella. You will see wild animals on the shore, many water birds and hippos. Of course from a safe distance. And in the distance Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru.
Lake Manyara
Before you reach Lake Manyara National Park, you drive through the village of Mto wa Mbu. This typical African village has a colourful local market with lots of fresh fruit and vegetables. It is fun to look around here.
You will then stay two nights in the middle of the park in a very idyllic place, close to the Endabash riverbed where there are many birds, monkeys and elephants. Along Lake Manyara you will make an adventurous walking safari with your guide and ranger.
There is a good chance that wild animals will walk past the unique Green Camp, while you enjoy a cold drink. In the middle of nature you will fall asleep on a lovely mattress, with animal sounds in the background.
Ngorongoro area
After a delicious breakfast, you will depart through the bush to Mto wa Mbu. On the way, you will enjoy the morning ritual of the elephants and the tree-climbing lions in peace. Once you arrive in Mto wa Mbu, you will enjoy a delicious lunch, prepared with fresh and local ingredients.
If you want, you can take a bike ride here or get to know the daily life in this bustling village while walking. The way to get in touch with the friendly population.
You will then drive on to the Ngorongoro Highlands, where you will spend the night in a luxury tented camp in the heart of ‘Maasai land’ between old forests and with a beautiful view of Lake Eyasi! These friendly Maasai will be happy to tell you all about their way of life, over a drink.
Ngorongoro Crater
This morning is all about the Big Five. You will be going on a jeep safari in the world-famous Ngorongoro Crater.
You will descend over the crater rim into this perfect deep volcanic crater, with a diameter of about 19 km. An area that has not changed in 500 years. Here you will go in search of the Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, rhinoceros and buffalo) and experience the animals up close.
Serengeti
We continue our journey from the Ngorongoro Crater to Serengeti National Park. This is one of the most beautiful routes in Tanzania.
Serengeti literally means ‘endless plains’. You have probably never seen this far in your life. Millions of ungulates migrate through this park all year round, looking for fresh grass and water.
In addition to the jeep safari, you also have the option to go on a walking safari with our guide and a park ranger. You won’t get any closer to nature.
Mafia Island
You say goodbye to the guide and fly to Mafia Island. A beautiful domestic flight with special views.
The coming days you will enjoy this special tropical island to the fullest, like a real Robinson Crusoe, the friendly and relaxed people and the beautiful (underwater) nature of the Mafia Island Marine Park. Here you will find sea turtles, dolphins, whale sharks and the rare dugong (sea cow). A beautiful diving location with colorful coral reefs and an abundance of underwater life.
What will make the most impression? Relaxing in a great (luxury) tree house or an encounter with the (harmless) whale shark or manta ray … You will only know afterwards!
Departure
In the evening, you fly from Mafia Island – via Dar es Salaam or Nairobi – back to your home destination, where you arrive the next morning.
