Travel schedule
Get to know the untouched nature, friendly people and delicious food in Tanzania. You will visit several parks in the north of Tanzania, each with its own and diverse landscape.
Tarangire with its many elephants, the Ngorongoro crater where you can spot the Big Five (elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard and rhinoceros) and experience the great migration of wildebeest in Serengeti National Park. Countless wildebeest and zebras move through the area in an annual rhythm, looking for fresh grass, and with many predators in their wake waiting for their chance.
You can then relax on the tropical island of Zanzibar, off the coast in the Indian Ocean.
Arusha
The journey starts in Arusha city, the safari capital of Tanzania. You will be welcomed at the airport and spend the first evening in a comfortable hotel with a tropical garden on the outskirts of Arusha.
This starting point of your safari is a great place to recover from your flight with a nice drink.
Tarangire
The Explore Tanzania guide will pick you up and together you will start the safari. You drive west through the Maasai Steppe to Tarangire National Park. This park is known for the gigantic baobab trees and large groups of elephants.
You will spend the night in an attractive lodge, just outside the park.
Serengeti
Today you leave after breakfast for a beautiful drive to the Serengeti. You drive past Lake Manyara, the village of Mto wa Mbu and through the Ngorongoro area. The road from the Ngorongoro Highlands to the Serengeti is one of the most scenic routes in Tanzania.
Serengeti literally means ‘endless plains’. You’ve probably never been able to see that far in your life. Millions of animals flock to this park all year round, which has so much to offer. You will spend the night here in an attractive tented lodge.
With a lunch box, you go on safari the next day and enjoy all that untouched nature and wild animals. One of the few places in the world where nothing has changed in 500 years (just like the Ngorongoro crater by the way).
Ngorongoro Crater
Today you quietly drive out of the Serengeti, towards your next destination. There is still plenty of time for special encounters with the animals here. Observe and enjoy is the motto.
You continue to the Ngorongoro Highlands, the Maasai area. In the course of the afternoon you will arrive at your lodge (or camping spot on the edge of the crater) and relax.
The next day you do a half day safari in the world famous Ngorongoro Crater where you might see the Big Five with a bit of luck.
Zanzibar
After breakfast you leave for Arusha and pass through the bustling village of Mto wa Mbu. It is recommended to stop here for an (optional) village walk or mountain bike safari and have a chat with the people here and/or (optional) enjoy a local lunch. Or do the Treetop Walkway and meet the baboons in this forest.
In the afternoon you fly from the airport in Arusha to Zanzibar Island. A beautiful flight with special views. The coming days you will enjoy sun, sea and beach on the tropical island of Zanzibar.
If you don’t want to stay alone in your hammock, there are countless options such as a spice tour, a visit to the historic Stone Town (UNESCO World Heritage). Or you can opt for a sailing trip in a traditional dhow, snorkelling and a fresh seafood BBQ on a deserted sandbank.
Zanzibar - back home
After a last day at the beach and a goodbye to your hammock, you fly in the evening from Abeid Karumi Airport on Zanzibar back home where you arrive the next morning, full of new stories and experiences that you will take with you for the rest of your life.
Maybe you have caught the ‘Tanzania virus’ and you want to go back as soon as possible to discover much more in this beautiful country that is 22 times the size of the Netherlands.
