Tanzanian camping adventure

Moshi

Your adventure starts in the pleasant Moshi town, at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro. Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro airport you will be welcomed and taken to your lodge. Here you can acclimatize quietly with a nice drink and enjoy the smells and sounds of Tanzania.

The next day you visit the Materuni Waterfalls and Chagga caves. These historic caves, actually tunnels, were dug by the Chaggas about 200 years ago to protect themselves from attacks by the Maasai.

Coffee is grown on these lower slopes of Kilimanjaro. How nice is it to immediately learn everything about coffee cultivation? You will take a coffee tour here and end with a local lunch.

And while you’re in Moshi, don’t forget to visit the trendy Union Café. This popular café serves delicious coffee from its own roasted beans, but also tasty pizzas & pastas.

Kikuletwa & Arusha

Today you visit the Kikuletwa springs. If you like, you can also cycle there (35km). You can swim in these wonderful hot water springs. After lunch you will drive to Arusha city.

In the afternoon it is fun to visit the local market in Arusha, explore various restaurants and spend some time in the popular pub ‘Via Via Cultural Lounge & Café’. Here you will find music, fun and a lot of atmosphere. Immerse yourself in the local life of Arusha city.

In the evening you will spend the night in a lodge in this safari capital in northern Tanzania.

Lake Manyara

After breakfast in Arusha you will be picked up by your safari guide in a 4WD jeep. All camping equipment for the coming days is provided and a chef will travel with you to prepare a delicious meal for you.

You leave for Lake Manyara National Park, a drive of about two hours. Just before the park you drive through the village of Mto wa Mbu, which you will see more of tomorrow. This typical African village has a colorful local market with lots of fresh fruit and vegetables.

Upon arrival in Lake Manyara you immediately go on safari in the park. At noon you will enjoy a delicious lunch in the bush.

Full of new experiences and encounters, you will arrive at your first campsite at the end of the day with comfortable facilities and a great view over the lake, just outside the park. You go to sleep under a clear starry sky.

Mto wa Mbu

Today you will enjoy a cultural day together in the local village of Mto wa Mbu, where all sorts of things are happening. There are markets, local pubs, fruit and vegetable shops, art and lots of local activity. A friendly village to walk or cycle through and get up close to local life.

Together with a guide you will walk through Mto wa Mbu and enjoy a delicious and pleasant local lunch on a banana plantation where you will be served all kinds of local dishes. This way you get to know the people and their lives here in an authentic way. You will also visit a bar where you can taste locally brewed banana beer!

In the afternoon you return to your camping spot, where you can enjoy the swimming pool and the beautiful view over Lake Manyara.

Serengeti

After breakfast you will leave for the Serengeti National Park. The route from the Ngorongoro Highlands to the Serengeti is one of the most beautiful in Tanzania. Along the way you will stop at a beautiful viewpoint over the Ngorongoro Crater and you can visit the Olduvai Gorge, where a special museum tells the story of the origins of man. A picnic lunch is included for the journey.

During the drive to your new camping spot you will go on safari and enjoy the many wild animals you encounter.

For the next two nights you will camp in the middle of the Serengeti National Park, where you will go on safari every day. This immense park, with its endless plains, has so much to offer. The animals are most active especially at sunrise, an experience you don’t want to miss. You wake up to the sound of the birds.

Ngorongoro

After breakfast you drive to the Ngorongoro area, an area with many Maasai bomas. Along the way you will take several safaris where you will see even more wild animals.

You drive on to the camping site at the top of the edge of the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater; prepares you for a cold night at altitude!

Tomorrow morning after breakfast you will descend for a safari in the Ngorongoro Crater; the world-famous crater where you could easily spot the Big Five (lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant and rhino). Although the rhino remains a nuisance! A tip is to get up extra early, so that you get to the crater very early and have the place to yourself for a while.

Momella

This morning you will get up nice and early for a safari in the Ngorongoro Crater. A unique – UNESCO World Heritage – nature reserve that has not changed at all in 500 years!

After the picnic lunch you drive to the village of Momella, just next to the border of the Arusha National Park. You will spend the next two nights in a stylish house in a nice and energetic place in the middle of the wilderness, on the flanks of Mount Meru. From your veranda you can see the giraffes walking by.

The next day you can spend the next day as you wish and undertake authentic activities with a Maasai guide. Such as a walking safari along the Meru River. You will undoubtedly encounter wild animals such as giraffes and antelopes and see young Maasai herders and Maasai ladies doing the laundry. You can also choose to visit one of the Africa Amini Alama projects in Momella (school, hospital). You decide on the spot how you will spend this day.

Back home

You will be picked up at the lodge in Momella and taken to Kilimanjaro International Airport for the connecting flight back home, the end of your Tanzanian camping adventure!
