A little greener every day

22 October 2024 | Nynke & Cees

“In essence, it is quite difficult to write something that accurately reflects our experiences, because guide James and Cees clicked so much that their collaboration in spotting animals was intensive and useful. That happens sometimes, that synergy arises. You wish that for everyone, but I think that is also a matter of personalities.”

At the end of November 2024 we made a 15-day trip through the North of Serengeti. We hesitated briefly whether this would be a good period due to the short rainy season, but this time exceeded our wildest expectations. It was not extremely hot and it rained every day for about an hour, which we benefited from very much. The safaris were quiet and nature became a little greener every day. Even the predators were more on the move than we had expected.

Because it was low season, we were able to study lion families endlessly, without being disturbed by many other safari jeeps. Large groups with playing cubs, watching and nursing mothers and father lion kept watch at a distance. We discovered cheetah mothers and were able to follow them with their prey still in possession. There were enormous herds of elephants, elegant giraffes, buffalo and even the zebras had cubs that were only a few days old.

And earlier than expected, the wildebeest in the Serengeti had started their migration. They came in long rows from all directions, trailing the rain. Magic! Even the rhinos and hippos started walking, while they usually spend their lives lying down and bathing.

The nature and the varied landscapes were very impressive and even more beautiful than we had imagined.

Ellen from Explore Tanzania understood our wishes perfectly, which allowed us to put together a trip that was tailor-made for us. The lodges and tented camps were excellent and yet you still felt part of nature.

On previous trips we had experienced that a good guide is the most important condition for a successful holiday. So one last word for our guide James. He made sure that we were able to see an extraordinary amount of animals and knew very well how to assess our wishes. We could call him a walking encyclopedia / naturalist / philosopher / storyteller and above all a very pleasant warm person with whom you can spend nine days intensively with great pleasure.

Thanks James, thanks Ellen and thanks Explore Tanzania.
