Three worlds: Kilimanjaro, safari and Zanzibar

4 February 2026 | Marc en Judith

What was the moment when you thought, ‘Wow, I’ll never forget this’?

When we reached Uhuru Peak (the summit of Kilimanjaro). But we had already had some real wow moments during the hikes before that.

What surprised or moved you about Tanzania? Perhaps something you hadn’t expected beforehand?

The nature, the people and the vastness.

How did you experience meeting the people and the culture? Think about conversations with your guide, local customs, hospitality.

Conversations with the guide were fine, good English. Communication with porters was poor due to lack of English.

The hospitality is fantastic! It is or feels pure. Not intrusive. Sometimes you think, gosh, it would be nice if they came to ask if you wanted another drink, but then you immediately think, “oh, how wonderful that they don’t do that”.

What would you recommend future travellers not to miss?

Definitely visit Ngorongoro Crater! Kilimanjaro is really something else and not for everyone. And I found Stone Town surprisingly enjoyable. I would definitely recommend it to everyone for a day and a night.

What will you take away from this trip, in your head, heart and/or travel bag? Something that makes you do things differently, see things differently, or just stays with you forever.

Hakuna Matata and pole pole.
