The beauty of Kilimanjaro

30 September 2025 | Nick en Frankey

What was the moment you thought: “Wow, I’ll never forget this”?
The moment we reached Uhuru Peak and saw the sunrise at the same time. We were exhausted and had suffered, but it was worth it.

What surprised or touched you about Tanzania? Perhaps something you hadn’t anticipated?
A safe country with friendly people. I expected them to treat us like a money machine, but that was never the case!

How did you experience meeting the people and the culture?
Very open and friendly, although Tanzanians can be shy at first. We mainly interacted with our crew on Kilimanjaro, and they were all great people.

What would you recommend future travelers absolutely not to miss?
Climbing Kilimanjaro? Look around and appreciate the beauty, even when you’re struggling.

What will you take with you from this trip, in your head, heart, and/or travel bag?
1) That if you want something, you can do it. Especially physically, a good mental vibe allows you to push your limits much further.
2) That you should make every day a good day. I already did this, but you see it less often in the Netherlands. For example, people in the Netherlands complain a lot. Tanzanians live differently. I didn’t see them complain much and they made the most of every day.
