The Italian Maura knew exactly what she wanted when she started her own lodge: cheerful colours, clean rooms, a casual atmosphere, friendly service and delicious fresh food.
Butiama Beach is an accommodation with which we from Explore Tanzania naturally clicked when we visited it.
In our opinion, Maura definitely succeeded in her mission!
The property
Butiama Beach is located on a beautiful beach stretch on Mafia Island, within walking distance of the village of Kilindoni . The spacious layout in a garden full of palm trees provides an open and expansive feeling.
In the middle of the area, you find the open restaurant and spacious lounge with a bar.

The fifteen spacious and attractively furnished cottages of Bustiana Beach are spread over a palm-covered area on the beach at Kilindoni.

The cottages’ interior is light and colorful, with furniture from local wood and decorated with “kikoi”: typical Tanzanian, beautiful, colorful, woven cloths. All rooms have a bathroom with a hot shower and mosquito nets. From the porch with hammock you have a beautiful view over the gardens, the beach and the sea behind it.
