The Aiyana Pemba Story:
Discovery and Inspiration:The owner, Ashok Sungkur, visited Pemba in 2000 and was inspired by the local people and the natural beauty of the island. He decided to build a resort that would be in harmony with nature and the community.
Construction Challenges: Building the resort was a huge challenge due to the lack of infrastructure such as water, electricity and roads. With the help of local people and craftsmen, the project was realized.
Use of Local Materials and Techniques: The use of local building materials such as lime mortar and traditional architecture was a conscious decision, which created employment and support for the local community.
Environment and Community: The resort was built with respect for nature and with an eye for sustainability. Much attention was paid to the preservation of local flora and fauna, and the resort supports the local economy by using local products and services.
Vision: The Aiyana strives for sustainable development that benefits both the environment and the community. The resort welcomes guests who share this vision and wish to contribute to the local economy and culture.
