Chaotic and beautiful
What was the moment you thought: “Wow, I’ll never forget this”?
When an elephant walked within touching distance of our jeep and then started thrashing around in a tree, knocking food down and calmly eating it right in front of us.
What surprised or touched you about Tanzania?
How content the people (seem to) are, despite living and working in conditions that are poor by our standards. It makes you realize just how good we have it here.
How did you experience interacting with the people and the culture?
Extremely friendly. Colorful. Helpful. I saw that more on the mainland than on Zanzibar, where people (except for the resort staff) were more distant and more “pretentiously” friendly, hoping you’d buy something.
What would you recommend to future travelers that they absolutely shouldn’t miss?
Everyone should go on safari if they get the chance. Not just for the animals, but also for the scenery, because I saw the most fantastic trees.
What will you take away from this trip, in your head, heart, and/or travel bag?
Africa is a world apart. Chaotic and yet incredibly beautiful. And although we sometimes think differently, here in the Netherlands, we really only have first-world problems.
