Relaxed Zanzibar

We’ve been back from Zanzibar for just under two weeks now and we’re trying to keep that relaxed feeling as long as possible. Hakuna Matata!

We started our 10-day holiday in Zanzibar at Fumba Beach lodge, beautifully situated by the sea. It was super relaxed. The lodge is small-scale with very committed and friendly staff. It was a great destination to start the journey with, to recover. It felt like paradise. We made a nice snorkeling excursion.

The lodge is somewhat remote, so you have to rely on the bar and restaurant of the lodge. It was all delicious and well cared for.

After three days we went to the east coast, to Jambiani. Our hotel was on the beach, we walked onto the beach from the room. This accommodation was also small-scale, but a little less personal. There were several beach bars along the beach for a snack and a drink. We made an excursion to the Jozani National Park, known for the red colobus monkeys.
We also followed a cooking workshop of the Swahili kitchen at Mr Okala. It was very educational and also delicious!

We took a taxi to the iconic restaurant The Rock, which is hard to beat in terms of location. Our final destination was Stonetown. On the way there we visited a spice farm. 

We enjoyed all the herbs, spices and fruits that were offered to us. It was a wonderful excursion.

In Stonetown we stayed in the authentic Swahili House. The roof terrace offered a nice view of the city. Also very friendly staff here. The hotel is located in the middle of a maze of small streets and souvenir shops and is close to the market and the slavery museum (highly recommended!).

All transfers and the booked excursions were well taken care of. Beautiful weather every day, 30 degrees during the day, 25 degrees in the evening with a cooling breeze.

We thoroughly enjoyed all three stays, it was a wonderful trip.
