Tarangire National Park: Our Favourite

15 March 2026 | Jacob & Marina

What was the moment you thought: “Wow, I will never forget this”?

Our very first safari at sunrise. We had breakfast under a sausage tree, right by a river where a large herd of buffalo had just passed. The light, the stillness, the sense of being completely surrounded by nature — it was simply breathtaking.

What surprised or touched you most about Tanzania?

The people. Everyone we met was incredibly friendly and cheerful. It made it so easy to feel at home, even though we were far away. That warmth stays with you.

How did you experience the encounters with people and culture?

The hospitality was genuine and sincere. At no point did we feel like “wealthy Western tourists.” Instead, it felt like by being there, we were contributing to the preservation of nature and supporting local communities.

We had many interesting conversations with our guides. They shared stories about their tribes, traditions and the origins of certain customs, but also spoke openly about the more complex political situation in Tanzania.

What struck us most was how closely life is connected to nature. In the West, our lives are often separated from it, but here nature is always present — even in the cities. Fresh vegetables, fruit, eggs… everything comes directly from the land. No processed food, no shortcuts.

What would you recommend future travellers not to miss?

Tarangire National Park, without a doubt. It became our favourite park. The landscape, the vastness, the feeling of space and untouched nature — it stood out above everything else for us.

The Ngorongoro Crater was also incredible, full of wildlife, and the Serengeti was vast and impressive. But Tarangire felt the most pure and authentic.

What do you take home from this journey, in your head, heart or suitcase?

The feeling of having been part of a true “animal kingdom”, where humans are only visitors — observing, and then moving on. That perspective stays with us. And also a deep appreciation for how perfectly nature is designed. It makes you realise how little of that connection we experience in our everyday lives.

Tanzania has left a lasting impression, and it’s something we will carry with us for a long time.
