Unforgettable solo trip

What was the moment you thought, “Wow, I’ll never forget this”?
During this trip, I had several unforgettable experiences. The Maalum Cave, dining at The Rock, horseback riding on the beach, the sunrise and sunset. There’s one thing I still dream about every night: the jungle sounds I heard while sitting at my cottage or lying in bed at Fumba Beach Lodge. That sound is truly magical!

What surprised or touched you about Tanzania? 
The warmth and friendliness of the people is truly overwhelming. Everyone wants to help each other and is cheerful. How did you experience meeting the people and the culture?
During my visit to Stone Town, I discovered how special the history of  Zanzibar is. Everyone lives peacefully together, and the people are incredibly hospitable. Hakuna Matata!

What would you recommend future travelers absolutely not to miss?
A guided tour of Stone Town is highly recommended! If you go on your own, you’ll miss a lot of the background and the whole reason why the island, the architecture, and the people are the way they are, and I think you’ll only see 10% of the city because it’s a maze of narrow streets. The sunrise and sunset are also something you shouldn’t miss. They’re breathtaking.

What will you take with you from this trip, in your head, heart, and/or travel bag?
Hakuna Matata suddenly has much more meaning, and along with pole pole, it’s my new mantra. I try not to worry about small, unimportant things anymore and to be good to my fellow man because helping someone is often a small effort. I also regularly pause for a moment, take a breath, and think: pole pole, take your time. A moment of reflection, awareness of where I am, and looking around. This whole trip was a huge boost to my self-confidence because I’d never traveled alone before and wasn’t sure I could do it. But I did it, and it was an unforgettable experience! It changed me for good. Asante sana!!
