Zanzibar, something for everyone
Finally our trip to Zanzibar was allowed to continue!
(So nice, after it unfortunately could not take place in January due to covid.)
From the beginning we had nice contact with Explore Tanzania. We were asked what our purpose was for the holiday and budget, and a wonderful trip was put together for us.
We have been to a total of four places on Zanzibar to discover the beautiful island, which is quite large. We wanted to both relax and do things. And it worked!
Our wonderful journey started in Stown Town, where we stayed in The Swahili House, right in the old center of the city. It was wonderful to be able to look over the whole city from the roof terrace. It gave us a magical feeling as if 50 years back in time.
The next day we did a city walking tour booked through Explore Tanzania. That was very nice because we were still tired from the trip and therefore we didn’t have to think for a while. It was a great way to discover the old town of Stone Town. Our guide knew a tremendous amount about both the history and current facts. Very nice.
On day four we left Stone Town for our next destination Matemwe, with a spice tour on the way there. What fun this was! All the fruit and herbs grew together and we were allowed to taste and smell everything!
The Zanzibar Pearl boutique hotel in Matembwe, our 2nd destination, is a wonderful hotel! It felt like we were on honeymoon, beautiful view over the Indian Ocean and waking up in the morning to the sound of the waves. The ultimate holiday feeling was certainly present here!
The last two places we went were Bellevue Guesthouse in Bwejuu and the Fumba Beach Lodge in Fumba!
Bellevue Guesthouse was a simple but very cute stay. You felt like you were in the jungle, but right behind the beach. It was also nice that Bwejuu itself was very quiet, but at a 7-minute taxi ride we were in Paje, a nice surfers’ village where you could visit the crowds.
Fumba Beach Lodge was also in a kind of jungle. We were upgraded to one of the nicest suites in the resort, where the monkeys and snakes were on your terrace. Beautiful view of the sea and a nice butterfly garden. We had a wonderful time here the last few days, with good food that we had booked (half board). We definitely recommend this, because it is very remote. At Fumba Beach Lodge you have the option to book different tours.
All in all it was a trip to remember. Zanzibar is a beautiful island with something for everyone; activities, beautiful beaches, delicious seafood and above all lovely people who are happy that you are here!
Hakuna Matata!
We will definitely go back again.
